One of my assignments in Brit Lit a few weeks ago was to write a piece in stream-of-conciousness...so here it is. It's nothing spectacular, and I don't claim to be any form of writer, but I enjoy reading other people's scribblings, so maybe someone will be somewhat entertained by my attempts :)
Oh, and just a note of rejoicing - my junior year is ohsoclose to being complete! Yesterday was the last day of Veritas :) :) :) :)
One - two - three, one - two - three, one - two - three. A drum
roll come to life, the hoofbeats echoed through her mind, driving her insane.
Her memory was clear, providing no escape from the never-ending reality. Each
millisecond was chiseled into her mind, playing over and over again. The
euphoric rush as Kaedance left the ground. The moment of exhilarating fear as they
flew through the air. The flash of sheer panic when she realized – they weren’t
going to come out of this one. If only she’d collected him a split second
before that corner. If only she hadn’t hesitated before giving him his head. If
only she’d spent more time emphasizing strength rather than endurance. If
only…maybe then it would have been okay. Maybe then they wouldn’t be slowly
crashing into the arena footing. Maybe then she wouldn’t be frantically gasping
for breath as a result of her body being slammed into the ground. She shook her
head violently in an attempt to force the mutilating replay out of her mind.
With a determined scowl, her lips formed the words that were scribbled on her
heart - “I will ride again.”
