"...and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment
I've no cause for worry or for fear..."
One of my favorite hymns :) The melody is beautiful, and the lyrics are powerful and convicting. Living day by day...taking no thought for tomorrow...now, this definitely doesn't mean to be lazy, and no, it's not a contradiction with Proverbs 6:6. It simply means trusting God with your life, relinquishing control, and surrendering all to Jesus. Um, maybe simply isn't the best word for that sentence. It's hard. And I forget.
But God sends me lovely reminders...last Saturday morning, as I lay huddled under my quilt with my Bible, I had an inspiration, and sent up just one request - "Lord, show me Your power." What scripture did I happen to turn to? Jeremiah 32:17-27. Just. What. I. Needed.
"17Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:"
Jeremiah is confused. It's kind of a long story, but the main jist is....he's confused. He doesn't really know what's going on, and he's not really sure what to do next. His first move? Praising God! Jeremiah keeps things in perspective by beginning with praises...which helps him focus on Who God is, and all He's more than capable of doing. In other words, God's power.
That hit me. Hard.
But little did I recognize just how soon I would put this lesson into practice...Saturday happened to be the day of a horse judging clinic, so I finished my quiet time, grabbed a quick bite of breakfast, and went to retrieve my judging pad. One problem...it wasn't there. {Yes, my judging pad is just a simple black steno book but it has "all" of my wonderful little notes I collected on the hippology team....and believe me, I need all the help I can get in judging} I looked everywhere I could think of...in each of my horse bowl binders, backpack, schoolbooks, shelves...no luck. So I decided to search the vehicles. I dash out to the Explorer and frantically search under the seats. Then I turn around...and lost my breath. The most beautiful sunrise I think I've ever seen {and I've seen some doozies} was just beginning to crown the horizon. Wow. The deep purples, oranges, and blues melted together into an indescribable blend in obedience to the Master's paintbrush.
Major perspective shift.
Anyway, to finish my little tale...after spending a few precious moments in prayer, I suddenly remembered Lindsay borrowing my notebook at practice a week or so ago...and it just so happened that she had it, and I was able to attend the clinic fully equipped. :)
I am so, so thankful for my heavenly Father who loves, treasures me and desires a closer relationship with...me! He knows my weaknesses, He knows my needs, He knows how to get my attention...and He knows every. single. thing. about me. ...Why, then, is it so hard to trust??
"Every day, the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He Whose Name is Counselor and Pow’r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made."
