Wisdom, knowledge, nerves, and new friends!

The 2010 Salem Baptist Practice Bible Bee was Friday, July 23. I, being a little behind on my Sword Study and memory verses, was quite nervous. As we sat in the auditorium, listening to the directions, the butterflies multiplied rapidly. Heading for my group - Junior/Senior - I recognized several of the girls from the kick-off, namely Lauralee and Megan.
I slowly began to relax as I took my seat at the desk. The instructions, the same for all the scan tron tests I've ever taken, seemed to go on forever. The tests were passed out, and Mrs. Allen notified us that we could begin. Fifteen minutes for fifty detailed questions about the book of Colossians is not a lot of time! However, on the 28th of August, we will have a mere hour to complete the 200 question test, so this was simply preparation. Answering the ones I knew without a shadow of a doubt, then going back to answer the ones I wasn't sure, or didn't have a clue about has always been my strategy. The cross-reference questions were the ones that really tripped me up, and I ended up missing 14 out of 50. Not a bad score, but one I definitely hope to improve!
After the time elapsed and we checked our tests, we were led back into the auditorium, and then into separate rooms for the three-minute oral rounds. I think I did fairly well, but we didn't receive our scores from those rounds.
This being completed, the bee part was over, and they released us into the "Family Fun room" set up with board games for the night. I met Lyndsey, who is also a Junior, and we played a game of Guess Who? before starting a conversation and exchanging email addresses. Her parents and my mom soon joined us, and began a conversation of their own.
After the closing reminders (I was rather surprised to learn that the Bible Bee security at the local level is even greater than at the SNSB), the night was over and we arrived back home around 10. All in all, it was a great night. I think it definitely will help me to prepare for the "real thing", and I was really glad to meet Lyndsey! The mock bee is August 14th, so I'm hoping that will go smoothly as well.
I definitely want to encourage y'all to participate in the Bible Bee next year! It is a wonderful experience. The Sword Study is a great Bible study, and the memory verses are ones that I will absolutely be able to use.

Now, back to studying....
